Taste of Art, a dynamic collective based in Tāhuna Queenstown.

Their mission is simple: to make art accessible to everyone, believing firmly in its transformative and healing power. The name embodies their vision—once you experience the joy of art, you won’t want to stop.

Taste of Art is a tapestry of local artists, many of whom have found solace and a sense of belonging through their creative endeavors after arriving in Queenstown. A place known for its stunning landscapes and adventure sports, also harbors a wealth of untapped artistic talent. Recognizing this, Taste of Art was formed. The collective comprises immigrants from diverse backgrounds, speaking different languages and embracing varied cultures, yet united by a shared love for art.

One of their most memorable events was a street performance centered on the theme of loneliness. This event brought together dancers, musicians, and visual artists in a powerful display of unity and creativity. The overwhelming response from the community was unexpected and heartwarming. Audience members shared their personal reflections on loneliness, which inspired the group to create a film featuring these interviews. This film, premiered in March and available on their YouTube page, underscores the importance of supporting each other and highlights how art can touch and connect lives.

As they look to the future, Taste of Art is excited to announce a series of experimental workshops scheduled for June and July. These workshops are designed to uncover the artistic potential within each participant, focusing on the theme of the inner child. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often neglect this playful and creative part of ourselves. The workshops aim to provide a space where individuals can reconnect with their inner child, explore their unique talents, and express their creativity freely.

Their ambitions extend beyond workshops and street performances. If funding were no option, Taste of Art would love to see more state-of-the-art community arts centres like Te Atamira. They also dream of transforming public spaces with large-scale art installations, turning the town into a vibrant canvas of cultural expression. Additionally, the group would host an annual arts festival that showcases performances, exhibitions, workshops, and interactive events, celebrating the diverse talents within the community.

As a reader of the Taste of Art blog, you are invited to join them on this exciting journey. Whether you are an artist looking for a platform to showcase your work, a resident seeking to reconnect with your creative side, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of art, there is a place for you in their community. Follow them on social media, attend their events, and be part of their growing family.

For those embarking on their own creative journeys, Taste of Art offers this piece of advice: Remember your why. Stay connected to the passion and purpose that inspired you to start. Let it guide you through the ups and downs and fuel your determination to make a meaningful impact through your creativity.

Thank you for being part of the Taste of Art community. Together, let’s continue to enrich lives and celebrate the power of art in Queenstown.
