She received a Bachelor of Applied Arts majoring in Jewellery from Whitireia New Zealand Faculty of Art in 2010.
In her final year, Jess received the Fingers graduate award and was also invited to participate in the Marzee Annual International Graduation Show, Netherlands 2011.
Winchcombe’s jewellery style has received international recognition for work exhibited in, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, and The Netherlands and featured in a Wunderrūma exhibition: New Zealand Jewellery curated by Freeman and Fritsch, which has toured successfully in both Europe and New Zealand.
As a participant in Handshake, a global mentoring project, Jess had the opportunity to collaborate with her chosen mentor, Warwick Freeman. The collaborative Handshake works led to Schmuck International Jewellery Exhibition, Munich 2012 and “Specials” a HandShake Alumni Exhibition, Munich Germany 2016.
In 2017 Winchcombe was invited to exhibit her jewellery in Milan Italy during Fashion Week.
In recent years Jess has been working in collaboration with photographer Paul Green for the Unloosed exhibitions.
In 2020 Winchcombe expanded into painting and multidisciplinary works in her solo exhibition and continued to explore these ideas for her recent solo exhibition Lost in Translation - Munich Jewellery Week 2023
